Two Challenges (A-Z & Sunday)

20120818-151349.jpg

March 2001, the birth of our son. New mother, new father, and newborn son. My son’s first picture after birth. The picture was taken by his proud and exhausted Daddy. The “new” is for “N” for Frizztext’s A-Z Archive Photo Challenge. I used the Snapseed iPhone photography app to change the color photo to black and white for Jake’s Weekly Sunday Post.

A-Z Archive: K Challenge (Catch Up Challenge)–Knowledge

My son enjoys learning about science and animals. I am thankful that he has learned the value of knowledge. In the picture above, he is expanding his knowledge as he reads a book at the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park in 2009. He was 7 years old at the time. The photo behind him shows a teacher expanding her students’s knowledge in a classroom.

My son, at age 6, jumping on the trampoline at his grandparent’s house. Looks like he’s floating in midair.

A-Z Archive: I Challenge – Ice Incident (Catch Up Challenge)

In the winter of 2011, Houston was very cold and roads and vehicles were covered with ice. One morning during that cold winter, my husband ventured onto the roads to check on his mother who was ill. He didn’t make it to his mother’s house that morning. Below is a picture of the result of another vehicle sliding on ice and crashing into my husband’s truck. Except for my husband being shaken a bit, he had no injuries. Not even a scratch. Thanks to another “I” word, insurance, we were able to repair the truck.

A-Z Archive: B Challenge – Blue Bell (Catch Up Challenge)

The photo shows me and my son in front of the factory that makes our favorite ice cream. My family and I visited the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory in 2011. The sign has a brief history of the Creamery. Photo taken by my husband.

A-Z Archive: A Challenge-Autograph (Catch Up Challenge)

Frizztext at Flickr Comments by Frizztext has started a new A-Z Archive Challenge with stories. The photo challenge is over and there are a few letters I missed at the beginning of the challenge earlier this year. I was very much set on covering all the letters of the alphabet using my photo archive, so I will pass on the story challenge. Instead, I am going to play catchup until I get all the letters of the alphabet covered and complete the A-Z Photo Challenge. After all, the challenge is to complete the challenge. And I want to complete the Photo Challenge. So for the next couple of weeks I will be doing a personal Catch Up Challenge. Let’s see, I need A, B, I, J, K, L, M and N. I have eight weeks there. Today, I will start with A for Autograph. Next week will be B and so on until I finish the challenge. After that I will just have two photo challenges to follow (The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge and Jake’s Weekly Sunday Post). Which works better with my busy schedule.

Several years ago, before my husband and I married, he and I went to a lecture given by a famous psychologist named Albert Bandura. He is famous in psychology history for developing social cognitive theory and the Bobo Doll experiment. Dr. Bandura was part of a guest lecturer series at the University of St. Thomas. At the time, I was an undergraduate at the University of Houston, and I brought a copy of my Theories of Personality class textbook to the lecture. I was more shy back then, so I asked my husband to go up to Dr. Bandura with me to ask him to autograph my textbook. My husband handed him the textbook and asked him to write “to Claudia.” Dr. Bandura looked up and asked my husband, “are you her spokesman?”. The photo above is the textbook with his autograph. Dr. Bandura is the gentleman wearing eyeglasses on the right page. He signed: “To Claudia, May the efficacy force be with you, Albert Bandura”.

A-Z Archive: G Challenge-Grand

The Grand Canyon shows the Grandness of God.

I have never seen such a sight before or since. The Canyon is amazing. It is so large and beautiful. When I first looked out into the wide open space, it looked like a painting. It was surreal.

The plaque seen on the left of the photo, on the stones, says : “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.” Psalms 104:24

The second photo shows the plaque enlarged. There is a prayer under the verse, but I don’t know remember it and I have not been able to make out what it says on the photo.

I took the photo in April of 1999 when my husband and I went to the Grand Canyon for our honeymoon.

Grandma is awesome.

My mother has been a wonderful support in the care of my son. The photo below is Grandma and Grandson in 2001. My son was only a few weeks old. He will be eleven years old in March of this year. The “angel kiss” on his forehead has faded.

Just Something I Thought I’d Share….

A friend of mine shared this with me. I hope anyone who watches this video learns as much as I did from it. What a powerful message. So, go out and cultivate a good day. And if you’re not having a good day, try your hardest to make it a good day.

-Live and love your life!

A-Z Archive: F Challenge- Fishing

The photos above were taken when my son was eight years old.  It was his first time fishing.  He was also the only one to catch a fish that morning.  In the photo, he is holding his first ever catch.  While we were fishing, we saw different sites.  Including a fishing boat and a pelican.  The location is Pelican Island near Galveston, Texas.  To enlarge the photos, single left click on one of the photos.

Exercise equipment.

The letter E reminds me of exercise. Above is a piece of exercise equipment, my treadmill, I need to use more often, so I can be healthier for me, my son, and my husband. And I have a feeling God wants me to be the healthiest me I can be, too.
