My Guilty Pleasure Song

I’ve decided to do a music challenge I discovered at MindLovesMisery blog. It’s a 30 day music challenge. I’m not planning to do it in 30 days or in order. I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

Here’s this week’s song.  My husband does not like this song.  You’ll understand when you listen to it and see the video.  I feel guilty sometimes about listening to it and the video doesn’t help lessen that guilt.  Also the fact that I am Catholic and the song is by Sinead O’Connor doesn’t help either (remember the Saturday Night Live pope picture incident).  However, I do think the song is more about finding a higher power than about hating men.  At least, I like to think of it that way when I listen to it.  When I get past the guilt, and forgive Sinead O’Connor, I find it to be an empowering song about going beyond worldly expectations and looking up to something more amazing than what we can see.  As a matter of fact, the name of the album where you can find this song is called Faith and Courage. Listen for yourself and see what you think.  The lyrics are after the video.  I would advise you to pay more attention to the lyrics and less on the video.  Enjoy!

Day 17: A guilty pleasure song:

No Man’s Woman

by Sinead O’Connor

“No Man’s Woman”

I don’t wanna be no man’s woman
It don’t make me happy this mantrolling
Thing that you got for me so I become
No man’s woman

I don’t wanna be no man’s woman
I’ve other work I want to get done
I haven’t traveled this far to become
No man’s woman
No man’s woman

‘Cause I’m tired of it
And I’m not scared of it
That I’ll never trust again
‘Cause a man could fake you
Take your soul and make you
Miserable in so much pain

My friends think I’m alone but I’ve got secrets
I don’t tell everything about the love I get
I got a loving man but he’s a spirit

He never does me harm never treats me bad
He never takes away all the love he has
And I forgive him a million times

I’m never tired of it
And I’m not scared of it
‘Cause it doesn’t cause me pain
Like a man could fake you
Take your soul and make you
Never be yourself again

I never wanna be no man’s woman
I only wanna be my own woman
I haven’t traveled this far to become
No man’s woman
No man’s woman
No man’s woman

Hi!! My name is Claudia. Blogging is sort of a creative/therapeutic activity for me. I blog about being a wife, mother, student, caseworker, and simply being human through photography, words, music, and blog challenges. Mental illness has also been part of my life, so you'll sometimes find mental health and psychology in my posts. I've dealt with anxiety and depression most of my life. And my husband has bipolar disorder. My hope is that I may show readers that it is possible for people to live positive, productive lives despite mental illness, challenges, or frustrations.
