Song Outside Choice Genre

I’ve decided to do a music challenge I discovered at MindLovesMisery blog. It’s a 30 day music challenge. I’m not planning to do it in 30 days or in order. I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

Here’s another song for the challenge.  This song is a little different for me.  I like to listen to many different kinds of music, but most often I will listen to contemporary, alternative, or rock music.  One genre I sometimes listen too, and could be considered outside my choice genre, is country music.  The following song is one of my favorite country music songs.  The music video starts with one sister being mean to her little sister and then the music starts.  I discovered this video Friday night.  I enjoyed this song because it reminds me of my husband and son, but I never thought of my relationship with my brother until I saw this video. If you’ve seen a past post (Follow Through -Haiku My Heart), you’ll understand. When we were kids, my brother was mean to me like the big sister; and I seem to remember more of the mean than the nice.  Go figure. Blogging therapy strikes again. As usual, the lyrics are below the video.

Day 19: A song you like that is outside of your choice genre–

The World by Brad Paisley

————

“The World”

To the teller down at the bank
You’re just another checking account
To the plumber that came today
You’re just another house
At the airport ticket counter
You’re just another fare
At the beauty shop at the mall
Well you’re just another head of hair
Well that’s alright, that’s ok
If you don’t feel important, honey
All I’ve got to say is

[Chorus]
To the world
You may be just another girl
But to me
Baby, you are the world

To the waiter at the restaurant
You’re just another tip
To the guy at the ice cream shop
You’re just another dip
When you can’t get reservations
‘Cause you don’t have the clout
Or you didn’t get an invitation
‘Cause somebody left you out
That’s alright, that’s ok
When you don’t feel important honey
All I’ve got to say is

[Repeat chorus]

You think you’re one of millions but you’re one in a million to me
When you wonder if you matter, baby look into my eyes
And tell me, can’t you see you’re everything to me

That’s alright, that’s ok
When you don’t feel important honey
All I’ve gotta say is

[Repeat chorus]

A Favorite Duet

I’ve decided to do a music challenge I discovered at MindLovesMisery blog. It’s a 30 day music challenge. I’m not planning to do it in 30 days or in order. I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

Here’s another song for the challenge.  The song is called “Lucky”, but I don’t believe in pure luck.  I think everything happens for a reason.  However, I think this song does a great job of expressing the feeling of gratitude I feel for the presence of a special person in my life.  The lyrics are below the video.  By the way, I’ve been married to my best friend for almost 15 years.  You’ll understand what I mean when you listen to the song.

Day 11: A Favorite Duet–

Lucky by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz

————

“Lucky”

( Jason )
Do you hear me,
I’m talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I’m trying

( Colbie )
Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard

( same, chorus )
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

They don’t know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I’ll wait for you I promise you, I will

I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we’re in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

( Jason )
And so I’m sailing through the sea
To an island where we’ll meet
You’ll hear the music fill the air
I’ll put a flower in your hair

( Colbie )
though the breezes through trees
Move so pretty you’re all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

( Chorus )
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I’m lucky we’re in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

A Sad Song

I’ve decided to do a music challenge I discovered at MindLovesMisery blog. It’s a 30 day music challenge. I’m not planning to do it in 30 days or in order. I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

So, here’s another song for the challenge with a very interesting video I found on YouTube.  The lyrics are below  the video. This song reminds me of my maternal grandmother who passed away in 2004. She died at the age of 91 of natural causes.  She was the first person in my life to which I was really close to pass away.

Day 9: A Song That Makes You Emotional or Sad–

The Scientist by Coldplay

————

“The Scientist”

Come up to meet you, tell you I’m sorry
You don’t know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I’ll set you apart

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh let’s go back to the start
Running in circles, coming in tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start.

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I’m going back to the start

Ooooohhhhhhh [4x]

A Mind-Tripping Song

I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

So, here’s another song for the challenge with a cute, often funny, simple video I found on YouTube.  And if you’re interested, the lyrics are after the video. My idea of mind-tripping is a thing or event that is unusual or weird. I find the lyrics to this song unusual and weird, but at the same time the entire song, lyrics and music, is uplifting. What do you think?

Day 12: A Mind-Tripping Song–

The Great Beyond by R.E.M

————

“The Great Beyond”

I’ve watched the stars fall silent from your eyes
All the sights that I have seen
I can’t believe that I believed I wished
That you could see
There’s a new planet in the solar system
There is nothing up my sleeve

I’m pushing an elephant up the stairs
I’m tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

In all this talk of time
Talk is fine
But I don’t want to stay around
Why can’t we pantomime, just close our eyes
And sleep sweet dreams
Me and you with wings on our feet

I’m pushing an elephant up the stairs
I’m tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great beyond

I want the hummingbirds, the dancing bears
Sweetest dreams of you
I Look into the stars
I Look into the moon

I’m pushing an elephant up the stairs
I’m tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great beyond

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great
Answers from the great, answers

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great beyond

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great
Answers from the great, answers

I’m breaking through
I’m bending spoons
I’m keeping flowers in full bloom
I’m looking for answers from the great beyond

So, here’s another song for the challenge.  I have many favorite songs, so I decided to choose a song that I’m guessing few people have not heard to share.  I heard this song for the first time in the end credits of the movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green, an unusual Disney movie about a boy born in the garden of a couple that is unable to have children. At the end of the movie, he must return to where he came from. Other events happen after that, but I won’t say anymore for fear I will spoil the movie for anyone that hasn’t seen it. I included the lyrics after the video.  This song is also another song with exceptional lyrics.

Day 3: One of Your Favorite Songs —

This Gift by Glen Hansard

————

“This Gift”

This gift will last forever
This gift will never let you down
Some things are made from better stuff
This gift is waiting to be found

Your heart’s in wide receiving
Been too long buried in the sand
Some things require leaving
This gift will fall right in your hand
Just try to understand…

If you long enough
And you don’t give up
If you’re strong enough
And you don’t give up
And you…

You’ll be no harbor to the sorrow
Just let it go.

Don’t hang your head in sorrow
Don’t give up just before you win
Don’t wait around for tomorrow
Open up your arms and let it in

This gift will last forever
This gift will never let you down
Some things are made from better stuff
This gift is ready to be found
Just you believe it now

This gift will last forever
This gift will never let you down
Some things are made from better stuff
This gift is ready to be found
Your heart’s in wide receiving
Been too long buried in the sand
Some things require believing
These things just fall right in your hand
Just try to understand

If you long enough
And you don’t give up
If you’re strong enough
And you don’t give up [x2]

A Rebellious Song

I’ve decided to do a music challenge I discovered at MindLovesMisery blog. It’s a 30 day music challenge. I’m not planning to do it in 30 days or in order. I find it’s easier and more fun to just post as I hear a song that fits any of the prompts and create a list under each post showing the prompts I’ve completed.

So, here’s another song for the challenge. There’s really no lyrics for the song, it’s mostly instrumental dance music with a few words here and there.  You may be a bit surprised by my choice of this one song.   You also may want to put your volume down a bit.  The song brings out my rebellious side, my appreciation of trance music, and admiration of the Alias television series.

You see, I first heard this song on the show Alias.   I’ve been following the series on Netflix for several weeks now.  There’s a total of a little more than a hundred episodes in all and five seasons.  I’m on season 2, and I’m intrigued.  I watch the show once or twice a week after my son and husband go to bed because neither one likes the show.  It’s my little escape after a long day.  It’s especially fun because the main character, Sydney Bristow (played by Jennifer Garner), is a lady that is strong emotionally, mentally, and physically.  She is also very caring and sympathetic of others and shows both strength and vulnerability.  However, she will hurt you if you’re up to no good.  She’s a double agent working for the CIA and a criminal organization called SD-6.  She’s not a criminal, but she works undercover as a bad guy to help the CIA bring down SD-6.  You really have to watch all the episodes not to get lost in the intriguing twist and turns of the story.  The show brings back memories of me as a little girl wanting to be a superhero.  Syndey is sort of a superhero (as the video below will show).

I welcome your comments on what you think of this song and/or the video.  I found the video on YouTube, and it’s a compilation of scenes from several episodes of the television series .  The music is by Paul Oakenfold, who I’ve never heard of before this song, but I would like to listen to more of his music.  I enjoy listening to trance music in small bites.  It tends to get me worked up and feeling a little anxious.  I find it to be a little intense for me, but sometimes I’ll listen when I’m feeling frustrated with something and want to get motivated to move ahead and rebel against my frustrations.

Day 10: A Song With Exceptional Lyrics –
Better
by Toby Lightman

————

“Better”

He’ll be enough to make you cry
He’ll be enough to open your eyes
To all the little things that make this world better
He’ll give you love you never know
He’ll give his heart only to you
And he’ll make your life oh better

So when he comes to you in the middle of the night
Cause he’s scared to be alone in the dark
You’ll tell him everything’s gonna be alright

Cause I will be your light
I will be your night
I will be that star in the sky who watches over you

You’ll tell him everything you know
You’ll tell him “oh the places you’ll go”
So you can be a good man and
make this world better.
You’ll give him all the love you have
Even when he makes you so mad
Keep in mind, that he made your life better.

So when he comes to you and he’s so confused
Because he wants to give his heart to another
You’ll tell him everything’s gonna be just fine

Cause I will be your light
And when the years are going by too fast
and he’s growing up to be big and strong
Know his love for you will last
Even when he doesn’t say it to your face
Even when you have to put him in his place
Know that he’s a love that nothing in this
world can ever replace

Day 14: A Song that Cheers You Up –
Mr. Blue Sky
by Electric Light Orchestra

————

“Mr. Blue Sky”

Sun is shinin’ in the sky,
There ain’t a cloud in sight
It’s stopped rainin’
Everybody’s in a play
And don’t you know
It’s a beautiful new day.

Runnin’ down the avenue,(Pant, Pant, Pant)
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today.

[Chorus:]
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long where did we go wrong.

Hey there Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you.

Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky’s
Up there waitin’ and today
Is the day we’ve waited for

[Chorus]

Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin’ over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I’ll remember you this way.

[Chorus]

Don’t…Forget…

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief…”

George W. Bush, November 11, 2001

————

“For me and my family personally, September 11 was a reminder that life is fleeting, impermanent, and uncertain. Therefore, we must make use of every moment and nurture it with affection, tenderness, beauty, creativity, and laughter.”

Deepak Chopra, M.D.

————

“When I look out the window, I exhale a prayer of thanks for the color green, for my children’s safety, for the simple acts of faith like planting a garden that helped see us through another spring, another summer. And I inhale some kind of promise to protect my kids’ hopes and good intentions we began with in this country. Freedom of speech, the protection of diversity — these are the most important ingredients of American civil life and my own survival. If I ever took them for granted, I don’t know.”

Barbara Kingsolver

————

In the spirit of the quotes above, I’ve chosen a song for today that reminds me to remember life and also celebrate it. It’s a song from the movie The Breakfast Club. On the anniversary of an excruciatingly painful day, remember and celebrate every life past, present, and, future. I found several videos on YouTube for this song, but I thought this one was most appropriate and thoughtful for today.

A Song That Inspires

So, here’s the first song for the challenge. During a tough work day, I put my earbuds on and repeatedly listen to songs on my iPod that help inspire me to continue my job despite feeling stressed or down. The video below is for one of those songs that has helped me get inspired and get my work done. Below the video, I included the challenge prompts and my list, which will eventually have all 30.
