A-Z Archive: W Challenge- Woodwind

20120531-070243.jpg The photo above shows my son last Wednesday at his school band concert. My son plays the clarinet which is a type of woodwind musical instrument. (The photo is a little blurry because I enlarged and cropped the original. The original was taken with my iPhone several yards away.)

“A woodwind instrument is a musical instrument that produces sound when the player blows air against a sharp edge or through a reed, causing the air within its resonator (usually a column of air) to vibrate. Most of these instruments are made of wood but can be made of other materials, such as metals or plastics.” (Excerpt from Woodwind Instrument entry on Wikipedia)

A-Z Archive: T Challenge-Textbook Timid

I’m not sure I am a textbook timid person, but timid is one way to describe me. Depending on the situation I can be more or less timid. My husband took the photo below. And oddly enough, I’m holding a textbook. I cropped his photo to just show my eyes and part of the book. And I used the Snapseed App to make the photo black and white. I was too timid to show the full color original photo. 🙂

On a family trip to the Johnson Space Center in 2010, we saw a Saturn V rocket.

A-Z Archive: O Challenge-Open

The picture below is a close up of the neon open sign over the door of my favorite Mexican restaurant, Ninfa’s. Here, my family and I eat lunch almost every Saturday. Unfortunately, the restaurant was sold. And its name and menu will soon change. As long as Ninfa’s is open, we will go together to enjoy some of our favorite foods and enjoy each others company. After that, we’ll have to look for another restaurant to make our favorite for food and company.

A-Z Archive: H Challenge-Hand

20120214-131405.jpg
The photo shows the palm of my hand glistening with sweat. One of the most annoying symptoms of my anxiety is the excessively sweaty palms, also know as hyperhidrosis. Here I was getting anxious at work. And funny thing, I don’t remember about what now. My hands don’t sweat as much as they use to. I remember playing the piano as a child and seeing little puddles of sweat on the keyboard. As a teenager in orchestra, my hands would sweat so much the sweat would run down my arm as I played my violin. And I would be afraid of saying the Lord’s Prayer at church, since I had to hold hands with someone and my hands would be sweating. Handwriting while anxious wasn’t much fun, either. With experience, learning to relax, and understanding that the sweating doesn’t last forever, the sweating has lost its intensity and I’m not too embarrassed about it anymore.
