Between Nevada & Arizona

Hoover Dam. Between Nevada and Arizona, my family and I found the Hoover Dam. During Spring Break this year, we took a plane trip to Las Vegas, Nevada; and, from there, we took a road trip to the Grand Canyon.  The Hoover Dam was one of the sights between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

This post is my literal take on WordPress’s Weekly Photo Challenge. This week, the theme is “Between”.

Weekly Photo Challenge – The Golden Hour

This week’s Weekly Photo challenge:

“The Golden Hour. In photography, the “golden hour” is the first and last hour of sunlight of the day. Photographers venture out on sunrise hikes or sunset treks to capture a magical shot, due to the quality of the light during that time of day…For this challenge, we want you to go out and snap a photograph, wherever you may be, during this Golden Hour — and pay attention to the natural light around you…

IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE TAKEN DURING THE GOLDEN HOUR.” -Cheri Lucas Rowlands at The Daily Post

I know the instructions say to go and take a picture, but I read the challenge at 9PM Saturday night and thought of one of my favorite outings  with my family.  The picture above was taken during a fishing trip with my son and husband a couple of years ago.  It was early in the morning during sunrise and the sunlight made this beautiful streak of light on the water.  Many of the surrounding sites were barely visible as outlines and silhouettes.  As we were fishing, we could see all sorts of fishing vessels in the distance.  Cargo ships, cruise ships, ferries, motor boats, sail boats, and fishing boats passed by this area.  My favorite was this fishing boat with birds hovering around it.  It wasn’t a particularly beautiful boat; but, some how, the way it looked beside the streak of light and the birds around it made it look pleasant and sweet.  For a larger image, you can click on the photo.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Nostalgia

This week’s Weekly Photo challenge:

“Nostalgic. Sometimes, we long for the past: for moments we want to remember or recapture. The good times. The golden years. Or perhaps we’re homesick, or longing for something — or someone — that might have been.

IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE THAT MAKES YOU NOSTALGIC.”

20130707-161513.jpg On Saturday, I found my son’s baby shoe. Not sure what happened to the other shoe. I haven’t been able to find it, yet. Turned out to be perfect timing for this week’s theme. The quilt in the background was knit by a coworker as a gift for my son’s arrival more than twelve years ago. My son is now nearing his teens, and seeing my son’s baby things reminds me of his baby days.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Companionable

This week’s Weekly Photo challenge:

“Your companion might be a pet, or your partner or progeny. Maybe it’s an object you unconsciously fiddle with as you work, a view that keeps you company, an album that helps you stay grounded, or a hobby you use to unwind at the end of each day. (If your companion is actually a low-ranking knight, you win.)

Share a picture of a COMPANION and explain why you chose that picture.”

My husband is my companion. Below is a photo taken at a photo booth in Galveston, Texas, the year we met. It’s one of my favorite photos of us together. I like how we both look so happy. I scanned the orginal photo, which was in color, and added the blog stamp and gave it a black and white effect to focus less on the colors and more on the happiness in the image.

Weekly Photo Challenge: The World Through Your Eyes

This week’s Weekly Photo challenge:

“Some of you are active photographers, while others are only beginning to take pictures. Whatever your skill, we challenge you to take and share a photograph that shows a command of your frame. Lead our eyes somewhere. Make us focus on something.

IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE OF THE WORLD THROUGH YOUR EYES.”

One of my favorite places to take photos is while I am a passenger in a moving car. I enjoy capturing what I see as my family and I drive down a country road or freeway. Below are a few glimpses of the world in and around Houston, Texas, through my eyes as I travel with my family on weekends.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Fleeting

I find clouds to be great examples of fleeting.  You have to have the camera with you or be really quick to capture that nice cloud formation before it disappears.  The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge this week:

“IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE THAT MEANS FLEETING TO YOU.”

Fortunately, I had my iPhone and captured this fleeting moment.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Escape

This squirrel looks like it escaped from the owner of a pecan tree. I was able to get this shot while it stopped for a few seconds to plan his getaway.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy

“My family makes me happy.”

The photos above are photos of my son, husband, and me together in the past 11 years.  There’s many people, events, and things that make me happy, but my son and my husband are #1 on my happy list.

These photos were originally in color.  I used PicMonkey.com to create black & white effects, a soft look, and dark corners. And I also used the new WordPress multi-photo format. I like it. You can click on any of the photos to see captions and enlarge the photos.

This week, “happy” is the theme for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. Click on the badge below for more details on the challenge and to see other entries.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Mine

“This shadow is mine.”

In the photo above, my son is around two or three years old. I remember him having such a good time.  When I saw him playing, I just had to take the photo to remember the precious moment with his shadow.

This week, “Mine” is the theme for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. Click on the badge below for more details on the challenge and to see other entries.
